Welcome to B.Healthy!
The B. Healthy Coalition was formed in April of 2012 as a result of the Community Health Needs Assessment, which found obesity prevention as one of the community health needs in Barry County. This coalition is a partnership among Spectrum Health Pennock and the Barry-Eaton District Health Department and involves community participation from a variety of supporters.
The goal of the B.Healthy Coalition is to prevent and control obesity and chronic disease through a focus on policy and environmental change in an aim to make the “healthy choice the easy choice,” and to increase awareness of a healthy
lifestyle and how that helps to support and promote overall physical and mental health.

Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer and stroke - which are the three leading causes of death.
Becoming A Blue Zone Community
Barry County is on a journey to become a Blue Zones community. Over 10 years ago "Blue Zones" were discovered where entire populations live significantly longer, healthier, and more active lives. A National Geographic study identified nine commonalities across the Blue Zones areas that led to their residents' longevity and vitality. In more recent years, 42 communities, many just like ours, have started on the journey to become a Blue Zones Community. And - we believe our community should be next.
Becoming a nationally-recognized Blue Zones Community is a multi-year, multi-disciolinary effort that will involve the entire community - schools, restaurants, grocery stores, government, businesses, agriculture, faith-based organizations, and individuals - and it will be transformational if we all get behind it!
